i push away that which i crave,
certain that what i need
is more than i deserve;
and all the affirmations in the world
cannot color the black and white lens
that all my self-portraits are taken with.
I am two-dimensional.
the depth of me is too frightening
to even touch except during nights when
it threatens to choke me with its intensity,
when it screams to be heard.
and the thought of someone else
swimming in the murkiness of me
makes me shake with fear.
I am beautiful.
but only to those who cannot see
inside the writhing mass behind my eyes
the demons that haunt my nights
and cloud my
